Morris Animal Foundation Provides Teachers with Animal Health Resource Center
August 3, 2011/Denver - For many kids summer is a time to play sports, go to camp and spend time with their pets. As kids prepare to head back to school in a few weeks, time with their pets may be cut short because of homework or extracurricular activities. But what if some of their assignments or activities were geared toward learning how to keep their pets happy and healthy?
Morris Animal Foundation, a world leader in helping animals enjoy longer, healthier lives, has enhanced its www.mafkids.org site with new pet health information. This online resource for teachers around the country helps educate children about the importance of animal health. The website is geared to second to sixth graders-which is fitting because the average age at which a person decides to become a veterinarian is 9.
The www.mafkids.org site features popular animals-dogs, cats, horses, llamas and lots of wildlife species-and the scientists who are working to keep them healthy. Students can take quizzes, see photos of scientists in action, watch videos and download wallpaper for their computers.

Study Results Lead to Better Treatment of
Urinary Tract Diseases in Pets
By Kelley Weir
One of the hardest parts about caring for pets is that they can't tell us when they're sick. But with a careful eye, you can notice when your pet suffers from disease conditions affecting the urinary tract. The most common of these conditions are urinary tract infections (UTIs) and urinary bladder stones, both of which are painful illnesses that can result in severe complications if left untreated.

Arthritis Information
This site features several research projects funded by MAF and 5 videos with veterinarians and pet owners talking about arthritis-prevention, treatment and ways that pets live with this disease. MAF hopes veterinary professionals will use this as a tool-a resource for pet owners who are concerned about their pets and the pain associated with arthritis.
