CACVT has a two-year membership/certification period -- July 1 to June 30 of even-numbered years. There are different types of membership, as listed below. Please contact the CACVT office if you need additional help in selecting the membership that will meet your needs (info@cacvt.com). Our courteous staff is here to help you.
- Graduates from an AVMA-accredited program who have passed the Veterinary Technician National Exam (based on the PES criterion reference score).
- Individuals will have full CACVT benefits and will be considered a CVT in good standing in the state of Colorado as long as they meet CE requirements established by the Certification Branch.
- Persons transferring into Colorado must (1) meet requirements established by the Certification Branch and (2) either provide a copy of their VTNE scores or have their VTNE score transferred to CACVT by the American Association of Veterinary State Boards (AAVSB) 877/698-8486 or http://www.aavsb.org/.
- We have reciprocity from other states.
- Continuing Education credits are required to maintain certification.
- Active Association Membership Form
- For current CACVT members who need a brief sabbatical from the full status category.
- Must be applied for.
- You must be a member in good standing of CACVT prior to applying for this category, that is you have submitted all your CE requirements from the last certification period.
- This status will be good for this certification period only. You will have to reapply for this category at the next certification period, if eligible.
- You may only apply for this status at the beginning of each full certification period. You may only be inactive for two consecutive certification periods.
- A total of 8 hours of CE is required between July 1, 2010 and June 30, 2012 to maintain this status (standard CE guidelines apply). The title of CVT will not be valid during this time. If at any time you wish to become fully activated again (active CVT category), please contact CACVT (info@cacvt.com) for details.
- Inactive Association Membership Form
- Retired Certified Veterinary Technician - designation behind name = CVT(ret)
- Retired members of the Association shall be those persons who are no longer working in the field and are either over the age of 60 or have 20 plus years as a credentialed veterinary technician. the person must be currently in good standing as a CVT or already in the retired category.
- The Retired category can only be applied for at the beginning of each new certification period. It must be re-applied for at the beginning of each new certification period.
- The Membership Committee will oversee the requirements for this category.
- They will be eligible to serve on committees or chapters, but shall not be eligible to vote or serve as officers or chairs of the Association.
- No continuing education hours are required.
- If a person wishes to move from the retired category back to the active CVT category, the membership committee will determine the process on a case-by-case basis.

- Includes veterinarians, assistants, receptionists, other healthcare team members or technicians credentialed in other states.
- This category is for anyone who doesn't wish or need to maintain certification in Colorado.
- All the benefits of joining the association apply except that associate members cannot vote, hold an executive board position, or hold a chair position. All other volunteer positions (such as committee members) are encouraged.
- Associate Membership Form
- Individuals currently enrolled in an AVMA-accredited program in veterinary technology.
- This expires on June 30th of the current year.
- Some schools have a group membership - please contact the office if you are unsure if you qualify (Bel-Rea and CMC students are covered under this membership and do not owe any additional fees - just fill out the form and ignore any payment options. Thank you).
- Student Membership Form

- Individuals may maintain CVT status without joining CACVT as long as they meet the defined requirements established by the Certification Branch. Individuals will have no CACVT benefits, but will be considered a CVT in good standing in the state of Colorado.
