General Information
It's up to each technician to submit his/her CE on the CACVT Continuing Education Form 2006-2008 (Click here for a CE submittal form) and submit it to the CACVT office once all the required hours have been obtained. Proof of attendance forms should be kept in case the CVT is "audited."
The presenter / sponsoring group does not inform CACVT who attended, but is responsible for providing certificates of attendance for each individual CVT. CACVT no longer accepts any group lists from presenting agencies. The individual CVT is responsible for his/her own CE and proof of attendance.
If you are not sure if your class is technical or supportive, go ahead and submit the hours with your "best guess." If the CE Committee has questions, they will contact you for clarification. Guidelines for categories can be found at CE Guidelines.
Once you have obtained your total number of CE credits, return the completed Continuing Education Form to the CACVT office. A blue postcard will be mailed to you to verify that the credits have been recorded. Since this recording is done by volunteers, please be patient with the processing. However, do contact the office if you have not received verification within a reasonable amount of time.
If you submit over 35 hours, you will be recognized in the newsletter, but no additional blue postcard will be sent.
Proof of AttendanceAny Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) who attends a CE program must obtain "proof of attendance."
This can be any type of certificate (of any size) that contains the following information:
These are just the basics. Additional information can be on the form as well.
You DO NOT need to submit proof of attendance when you submit your CE Request Form, but if you are chosen randomly from the computer database, then you will be asked to provide proof of the CE you have submitted. Please retain proof of attendance for your own records and submit if requested.

Getting "Audited"Throughout the certification period, people who have already submitted their required CE will be randomly chosen to submit their proof of attendance (copies are preferred).
For each group of approximately 50 to 75 members who submit their full CE requirement (16, 8, or 4 CE hours), one person will be randomly chosen and asked to submit the proof of attendance forms to the CACVT office. The person will be asked via mailed letter or e-mail. The person asked will have two weeks to submit copies of the proof of attendance certificates for the CE already submitted via snail mail, fax, or e-mail to the CACVT office (this includes weekends).
If the member has not submitted them within the allotted time, then staff will follow-up with a phone call to determine the reason why the person is delinquent. If the reason is not adequate, it will be taken to the Continuing Education committee, and then to the Executive Board if needed.
If the person cannot provide proof, then they will not be considered a certified technician in good standing (like they haven't turned in CE) until the situation is rectified.
