Committees

CACVT has a variety of committees, which support the overall function of the association. While Chairs must be CVTs in good standing, any CACVT member can be involved with any committee. There are both big and small projects; projects to appeal to everyone’s time and talents.

  • Conference Committee
    Chair: Krisha Hanson, CVT
    General duties of the committee
    • Offer well-rounded, affordable Continuing Education (CE) at various locations throughout the year
    • Be involved with choosing speakers, locations, and events at a variety of CE opportunities
    • Current conferences include: Annual Spring Conference, Winter Focus Conference, and CVMA Annual Fall Convention
    Volunteer opportunities
    • Looking for people with ideas about what they would like to see in CACVT conferences. While this is an ongoing request, we'd appreciate help even on one conference. Planning is done well in advance of the conference.
    • Work closely with Staff to bring ideas to fruition.
  • Nominating Committee

    • Establish criteria for leadership members
    • Identify and contact interested individual
    • Provide support to the positions

    • Assist in identifying individuals who would like to become involved in a leadership role and inform the chair
  • Emergency Preparedness Sub-Committee
    Chair: Leslie Boyd, CVT
    Falls under the Membership Committee.  Also works closely with the CACVT office and the Animal Emergency Management Program (AEMP).

    Mission Statement
    The mission of the Emergency Preparedness Committee is to assist members in establishing protocols for either personal or business emergency preparedness, and to provide direction to individuals interested in response.
    General duties of the committee
    * Offer support materials and possible training courses to assist members in preparing and implementing emergency plans for both business continuity plans and for individuals (clients).
    * Act as a conduit to assist with the recruitment of volunteers for training for any of the already established programs. Examples of programs include, but are not limited to: the Colorado Veterinary Medical Reserve Corps, County Animal Response Teams, or any other Animal Emergency Management Programs.
    * Participate in advisory committees, conferences, and publicity events as requested by the Animal Emergency Management Program (AEMP) and/or other regional, state, or national organizations involved in animal emergency planning and response as deemed appropriate by the committee.

  • Ethics Committee

    General duties of the committee

    Hold ethics hearings of CACVT members based on the "Code for Veterinary Technicians."

    Offer opinions concerning the governing of ethical issues.

    Govern legal actions that are deemed necessary.

    Be directly involved in legislative activities that promote veterinary technicians and the CACVT.

    Review the bylaws every two years and make suggestions for amendments, alterations, or repeals as deemed necessary.

    Members are encouraged to attend State Board of Veterinarian Medicine meetings to familiarize themselves with the legal aspects of veterinary medicine. 

    Volunteer opportunities

    Help review the Colorado State Practice Act, identifying modifications, and seeking legislative changes.

    The Regulation Task Force is meeting on a regular basis to evaluate the effect of governmental regulation. For information, please contact Rebecca Rose, CVT, at rosemomcvt@gmail.com.

  • Finance Committee

    Propose yearly budgets.

    Provide methods to increase revenue.

    Design and/or approve fundraising activities.

    Set guidelines for reimbursement protocol.

  • Public Relations Committee

    General duties of the committee

    Design and initiate methods to promote membership and participation.

    Promote a cooperative professional relationship with other professional organizations and with the general public.

    Provide programs that promote and support veterinary technicians.

    Deal with media relations and general publications.

    Support activities concerning CACVT's booth.

    Support activities concerning National Veterinary Technician Week (NVTW) in October.

    Looking for people to promote the veterinary technology profession by staffing the CACVT booth at various functions throughout the year. Dates and times are specific.

    General duties of the committee

    Since AAVSB now oversees the delivery of the Veterinary Technician National Exam (VTNE), the duties of this committee have become limited.

    As specific situation arise, the committee is called upon to make decisions regarding issues surrounding the testing process.

    Establishes criteria for passing the VTNE for the state of Colorado. 

    Reviews Continuing Education guidelines.

    Records individual CE classes for members.
