FAQs - Everything You Need to Know About CE and Renewal (Hopefully)!
In order to better serve you, here are a few FAQs that will hopefully answer most of your questions. Please read it carefully and pass it along to your CVT friends
For information concerning changes to the next certification period (July 1, 2010 to June 30, 2012), please visit the news item on "CACVT Changes" or click here.
1. When do we pay fees?
EVERYONE'S certification expires on June 30, 2010, no matter when you originally joined. Fees are paid at the beginning of the certification period. So you can renew anytime 2010-2012 (www.cacvt.com/membershipcategories or www.cacvt.com/apply).
NOTE: There is a three month grace period. So there are no additional fees or consequences if you don't renew before October 1, 2010. After October 1, 2010, you will not be considered a CVT in good standing until you renew. There will be an additional $25 reinstatement fee. However, you do not need to retest if you reapply within a suitable window of time.
2. When is CE due?
CE is due at the end of the certification period. So CE is due before June 30, 2010 (www.cacvt.com/guidelines). If you haven't finished your CE, or if some CE already submitted wasn't accepted, please do so ASAP and submit it as soon as possible to be considered in good standing.
2.A. If I haven't finished all my CE, can I still renew for 2010-2012?
YES. Fees are separate from CE. So you can renew your certification, you just won't be considered in good standing until all your CE hours are submitted.
3. How much CE do I need? (www.cacvt.com/guidelines).
4. There are two categories of CE: Technical and Supportive Category. Do I need half of each?
NO! You need at least half Technical (except if you're turning in 4 - then all 4 have to be technical). If you're turning in 8 or 16, then half must be technical and the other half can be EITHER technical OR supportive. (www.cacvt.com/guidelines).
5. Do I submit my CE certificates?
NO. Only the classes you attended. If you are audited, then you submit your certificates (so keep them for your records) (www.cacvt.com/guidelines).
6. How do I submit my CE?
Either on line (electronically) or by sending in the Continuing Education form (physically mailing or faxing). The CE form is found at www.cacvt.com/howtosubmit.
7. What if I get more CE than required?
Congratulations! However, it doesn't carry over. Everyone begins "new" on July 1, 2010, no matter when you joined. This is for both membership and CE (www.cacvt.com/guidelines).
8. I submitted my CE online (www.cacvt.com/cesubmitform). Why didn't I get any confirmation?
The Web site is not currently set up to send an automatic response. However, chances are we received your CE and have submitted it to the volunteer. You will eventually receive confirmation verifying your hours. Due to the large volumes of CE currently being submitted, this process may take some time (3-6 weeks). Thank you for your patience.
9. What is a "blue postcard?"
Traditionally, a physical postcard printed on blue stock paper was sent to CACVT members informing them of the acceptance of their continuing education hours. Since this has been done for years, the "blue postcard" is the terminology for your CE record. Please keep this verification for your records.
9a. I haven't received my "blue postcard" do I need to resubmit my hours?
Not at this time. Please be patient as volunteers process the CE. If you'd like this process sped up, consider volunteering yourself during the heavy times. It's not difficult, but it does take time to go through 1,800 people's CE classes.
It helps the office if all your CE hours are submitted at one time.
Currently we are about one month behind in processing. Hold onto your CE records until you hear from us.
10. How will I be notified of my CE status?
By a "blue postcard." However, we are using a new process and notifying people via email if we have your email address, or by a physical blue postcard if we don't have an email for you. By doing most of the notification by email, it is saving both time and postage for the association.
11. What if not all my CE is accepted?
Once you receive your blue postcard (either physically or by email), if there are any discrepancies with your hours, please contact the CACVT office. If you end up being short on hours, you'll have an opportunity to obtain more.
12. Where do I find my CO certification number?
Either on your membership card or now in the "Directory" in the members-only area. However, you don't need it if you're renewing your membership as we already have it in the office. Visit www.cacvt.com/directory (you must be a paying CACVT member and have signed up for access).
13. How much CE do I have?
You should keep track of your own CE. However, it is now listed in the "Directory" in the members-only area (www.cacvt.com/directory). You have to be logged in as a member to see the directory listing. If you can't find your name, then contact the office.
14. Where do I find CE?
Visit www.cacvt.com/otherprograms. This is only the listing known in the CACVT office as other CE is accepted as well.
15. What if this didn't answer my question?
Then please contact the office and we would be glad to discuss your situation.
